Nature of Business East African Breweries Limited (EABL) is East Africa's leading branded alcohol beverage business and has an outstanding collection of beer and spirits brands. With breweries, distilleries, support industries and a distribution network across the region, the group's diversity is an important factor in delivering the highest quality brands to East African consumers and long-term value to East African investors.

EABL has an annual turnover of Kshs 30 Billion and it has the largest share of the beer industry in the region. The group employs more than 1000 people across East Africa. EABL has been awarded the accolade of the "Most Respected Company in East Africa", five years in a row (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 & 2004) in a survey conducted by Pricewaterhouse Coopers and the Nation Media Group.

EABL was incorporated as a private company in the year 1922 under the name Kenya Breweries Limited. In 1926 the first dividend was declared, and in 1931 the first bonus share issued. EABL became a public company in the year 1934.

East African Breweries completed the largest public share issue in Kenya’s history in 1972, raising the number of shareholders to more than 23,000. In the year 2004, the company made its largest ever bonus issue and split nominal value of its shares from KShs 10/- each to KShs 2/- each. In the same year the company was voted the 'The Most Respected Company in the East African Region’ for the fifth year running.

2005, EABL becomes the first company in Kenya to reach a market capitalization of USD$ 1 billion. EABL is one of the few companies trading in every country in the East African region, having listed on the NSE in 1934, USE in 2001 and DSE in 2005.

East African Breweries Limited (EABL) today announced its pre tax profits for the financial year ended 30th June 2010 of KShs 12.5 billion, a 10 percent increase over the previous year’s KShs 11.5 billion.The net turnover went up 10 per cent to Kshs 37.9 billion compared to Kshs 34.4 billion in 2008-2009 financial year.
