| Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), the biggest bank by assets in the East African region, posted a net profit of KES 3.03bn (EUR 27.5mn) for the first quarter of 2013, up 25% y/y, on the back of higher income coupled with a fall in loan loss charges. The bank's pre-tax profit grew 26% y/y to KES 4.26bn in Q1. Net interest income rose 5.8% y/y to KES 7.37bn, while non-interest income jumped 12.4% y/y to KES 4.02bn. The bank's loan loss provisions fell 28% y/y to KES 573.8mn, while gross non-performing loans grew 29% y/y to KES 16.13bn. |
